Renewable energy has evolved into a very effective solution to the energy crisis, but not much has been done to save power within the electric motor itself. Electric motor manufacturers have developed premium efficiency motors, but these designs have only increased efficiency by a minimal 1% to 2%. They save energy, but actually consume more power relative to standard efficiency motors operating on light loads.
The performance of a motor is intrinsically dependent on its load dynamics. Even a highly efficient motor will operate at a low efficiency and power factor unless it is operated at full load. Most motors, however, are rarely operated at full load continuously. This results in very low efficiencies and waste power.
